My Grandma would've been

94 last Saturday. She passed away when she was 68 of breast cancer. I can't believe it's been so long since I've seen her, but feel lucky to have known her for 14 years. Some of my younger cousins either didn't know her or knew her but have no memories of the wonderful person she was. This was the Grandma that dressed up like Batman to my Robin ~ the one who never complained despite the pain she was in ~ the one who collected old perfume containers ~ the Grandma that was always there with a hug. I feel terrible that the last time I saw her, I was a self-centered 14 year old. I wish I'd have had the foresight then to realize it was the last time I'd see her. I'm sure she knows....but still. Love you Grandma!

Picture above taken in 1982 ~ I was still a fun tween at 12. I got a laugh to see that my smile hasn't changed much except for the braces.

  2. That is an adorable picture. I didn't know either sets of my Grandparents. My Mom's Dad was gone before I was born and my grandma was gone when I was a toddler. My Dad's dad died when I was a toddler and his Mom was gone when I was 5 or 6. I love that you have these great memories and share them with others. She sounds like an amazing woman.

  3. I have lost both of my grandmothers, one when I was a self-centered 14 year old. Some of my sweetest dreams are when I see my grandmothers again; seem very real. It reminds me of that movie "Peggy Sue Got Married" when she sees her grandmother again. Nice post, Kim.

  5. Thanks Kim for sharing that. I didn't even know when her birthday was! I have a few memories but not many. I love the connection that I feel with family and grateful for the wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins. Your mom is probably a lot like grandma and she would put up with me and give me some extra attention even though I was a bratty kid.

  6. My mom is similar to Grandma Loraine ~ and I didn't think you were a bratty kid. It's great to have family connections!
