My facebook status

is usually something I try to have fun with ~ whether it be to quote a favorite movie, inspire, make people laugh or share something that happened in my day. I was looking for a good, inspirational quote as most of my statuses today had been in the humor category. I came across the following one in a google search and really liked it's message.

"I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody."
Bill Cosby

This quote was not printed in bold or italics, but it stuck off the page to me personally. I often try to make myself into what might make someone else happy. I might think that I am "being nice" by being who others want me to be, but in reality it just makes me unhappy as this erases who I am. I'm not going to be liked by everyone, or be everyone's best friend. At first, this is a hurtful realization, but I have to acknowledge that no matter how I am or what I do, lots of things are out of my control and no matter what I do, I can't force others to like me by trying to be like them or change who I am to fit someone else. I have to be okay with that.....and I am (mostly). I can find success in being myself. Thank you to those who allow me to be me ~ you're much appreciated!!

Who knew I'd find inspiration from good ol' Cliff Huxtable........

  2. Amen! It is impossible to please everyone! And like you I am okay with that! I really enjoy everyone...and I am a happy person too...and for others they don't want that! They want to know how miserable someone is...sorry...it's not me!! I for one have loved who you are KIM!!!!

  4. Great advice, and who better to deliver it than good ol' Cliff Huxtable? Thanks for the reminder. (And I love your movie quotes. I always try to figure them out, and rarely do...)

  5. I know exactly how this is! I was/is in the same boat. I used to do this all the time, then some hurtful things happened and I realized I was getting lost in all the personality traits that I was assimilating and I realized I wasn't happy. It was a turning point in my quest of self-discoverey. Which I believe will never end. Remember when I stamped you the first pendent with your kiddo's initials? At that time I stamped one for myself as well and it says "I am me." Most people when they read that are like "oh you're so observant." in a sarcastic tone, but they dont' understand it's my declaration that I am ME and not who I think someone else wants me to be. Would you like me to make you one too? I think Kim is wonderful person to be and those that don't think that are missing out BIG TIME!
