I remember well the morning of September 11th, 2001. I was getting my 4th grader Katie and my 2nd grader Tyler ready to catch the bus to school. With an almost 2 year old Anna and a 2 month old Rachel, my mornings were...suffice to say, a little busy. My phone rang and I debated to answer it amid the chaos, but curiousity won out and I picked up the receiver. My mom was on the other end and a little hysterical. I panicked, thinking that some kind of family emergency had occurred, when she said "We've been attacked. Turn on your television." My mind could not wrap itself around her words, as I've never known war in my lifetime. I turned on the tv and minutes later witnessed the WTC tower with the radio antenna collapse as though it were made of nothing. It didn't even occur to me that there might be people inside because I could hardly believe what I was seeing. As I was glued to the news throughout the day, the horror of the day, who was behind it and the many lives lost started to form a clearer picture. I recall crying and crying as I watched those with missing loved ones barrage the news with photos and information, trying to locate them ~ and many never able to do so. I still cry thinking about it.

For the lives lost and their families, know that your sacrifice is not forgotten or lost on the masses. For those families who's members died bringing down the 4th plane, I honor them and you. They did what they did knowing the probable outcome and yet they still went ahead and saved many lives due to their actions. So many heroes out of a senseless act! I also honor all of the emergency responders from NYC and all over this great country for their sacrifice and willingness to search for those who might be trapped. And for my country, I'm PROUD to be an AMERICAN! So while it's been years, know that though many loved ones are......
GONE....they are
DEFINITELY NOT FORGOTTEN!
Beautifully eloquent, Kim.
ReplyDeleteDerek came upstairs that morning and told us an airplane had run into a building, we were thinking it was an accident. Then he came upstairs again and said another airplane had hit a building. I just remember think "what is going on!" Never in my widest dreams did war cross my mind! It was a very sad time and also made you proud of those that stopped another attack....may God bless them all and their families!
ReplyDeleteAmen, my friend.
