is a good way to describe my last few days. I've had the privilege to accompany the choir from Lee Elementary in their holiday concert. As an added bonus, Anna and Rachel are in the choir and I've had fun watching them interact with their friends and spending time with them.
Accompanying a choir or group or soloist is so stressful because if you mess up, usually they do too so I feel an incredible weight on my shoulders for the success of the performance. Many of the choir students are also my piano students which adds to my nervousness. What parent in the audience wants their child to take piano lessons from someone who makes a lot of mistakes?!?
Tuesday night was the concert and though I occasionally felt like I might have been running a marathon rather than sitting at the piano.....(i.e. my heart was racing AND pounding), but the usual adrenaline rush that hits me midway through a song never came thanks to a lot of prayers. I'm so grateful! Today I got to play at the Capitol, the mall and a senior center. What a fun experience and with relatively few nerves as compared with Tuesday night.
Thanks mom for bribing me with stickers for my sticker collection when I was younger to get me to practice! Who knew?!?
You are amazing!! Absolutely amazing!! I'm glad it went off without a hitch and that it is over. :-)
ReplyDeleteAh, the thankless life of an accompanist! Loved hearing that someone else faces similar anxieties. Sounds like fun, though. I really enjoyed playing for the Pringle School back in the day. I also played for Judson for awhile, too. Good memories. I always hoped I wouldn't embarrass my kids ;-)
ReplyDeleteI wish I could play! I make my girls take lessons...maybe I'll try bribing with stickers!
ReplyDeleteI'm very proud of you. It seems that all those times I had to stand over you and make you practice have paid off.
