Suddenly

my little girls are OBSESSED with Barbies........

Ever since the infamous Barbie incident of 1999, we really haven't had Barbies in our house.....maybe an occasional lone Barbie doll, but never a plethora of them.

What is the infamous Barbie incident you ask? Well, I'll tell you. Katie (then age 7) had a large amount of Barbies and also a Barbie swimming pool. She and Tyler (then 5 ~ he'd deny playing with these dolls now and to his credit, he was always Ken) took all the dolls for a dip in the pool. As they were in the midst of a Barbie swim session, I realized I was late for an OB appointment and hurriedly got the kids into the car. Katie and Tyler put the dolls.....the soaking wet dolls.....into the airtight rubbermaid container and there they remained for several weeks as when we got home, we started dinner and forgot all about the dolls. When the container was finally opened......a lovely smell greeted us. The Barbies had molded and mildewed......Ken looked as though he had contracted the flesh eating virus. Barbie now resembled a zombie from the Thriller video. Katie was so sad. We tried to wash the dolls, but the smell would never dissipate and the dolls finally were forced to settle into their new dream home....aka the garbage can.

We never repopulated our house with Barbies until now.....the girls LOVE them! And with the realization dawning on me of how quickly kids grow up, I'll be happy to have them stay little girls just a bit longer, playing with Barbies to their hearts' content!

Hopefully this new population of Barbies will aim a little higher than the garbage......
